What is City Connects?

Your child's school offers a comprehensive student support program called City Connects that ensures each and every student receives the same services and resources he or she needs to be academically successful and healthy.

A City Connects Coordinator collaborates with school staff to review the strengths and needs of every student. With your support, the Coordinator then links each child to a tailored set of services and enrichment opportunities in the school or community addressing his or her particular strengths and needs. Enrichment activities can include sports, arts, and music; services range from after-school programs and tutoring to mentoring. The personalized set of activities and services is designed to help each child reach his or her full potential.

Students benefit from the connection made by their City Connects Coordinator. Research shows that children who attend City Connects elementary schools outperform their peers academically - not only in elementary school but also later in middle and high school.

City Connects was developed in 2001 at Boston College in collaboration with Boston Public Schools, families, and community-based organizations. By leveraging the resources of a city's community agencies, City Connects can offer many types of opportunities to you and your child.

¿Qué es City Connects?

Le escuela de su hijo/a participa en un programa comprensivo de apoyo estudantil llamado City Connects, que le asegura a cada estudiante los servicos y recursos que él o ella necesita, para estar saludable y ser existo/a en lo académico.

Un Coordinator de City Connects colabora con el personal de la escuela para revisar las fortalezas y necesidades de cada estudiante. El Coordinator entonces vincula a cada niño/a con un conjunto de servicos y oportunidades de enriquecimiento en la escuela o en la comunidad, tomando en cuenta sus fortalezas y necesidades particulares. Las actividades de enriquecimiento pueden incluir deporte, arte y música; hay una variedad de servicios desde programas después de la escuela y tutorial, hasta programas de mentores. El conjunto personalizado de actividades y servicos está diseñando para que cada niño/a alcance su máximo potencial.

Los estudiantes se benefician de las conexiones realizadas por el Coordinator de City Connects. Las invesitgaciones demuestran que los niños que asisten a las escuelas primarias que participan en City Connects superan a sus compañeros académicamente, no sólo en la escuela primera sino también más tarde en la escuela intermedia y secundaria.
