Southbridge High School Student Selected for MIAA Student Advisory Committee

Congratulations to Southbridge High School’s Jorancy Santana Jimenez, who has been selected to serve on the Student Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA)!

Selection to the Student Advisory Committee is a competitive process that includes a local nomination followed by an application, essay, and interview focused on the applicant’s athletic, community service, and school activities and their goals for service on the committee. Jorancy was selected as one of two students representing District 2.

Jorancy is a member of the Southbridge High School class of 2023. She has been on the softball and volleyball teams during her time at Southbridge High School. She is currently looking at various colleges and she would like to major in business or biology.  During her time on the committee, Jorancy would like to advocate for all sports to get equal attention at the local and state level, including those that don’t always get as much visibility or recognition.

Southbridge Public Schools Athletics Director Jason Linders believes that Jorancy’s selection to the committee is great news for the Pioneers.

“This is a fantastic opportunity, not only for Jorancy to represent the Pioneers, but also bring back ideas and initiatives to our campus to implement into our programs,” Linders says.

Students who serve on the MIAA Student Advisory Committee attend the New England Student Leadership Conference and/or the MIAA Student Ambassador program.  They also attend meetings with the Educational Athletics Committee and help to facilitate leadership workshops during the school year and provide feedback from the student perspective on the educational athletic offerings of the MIAA. Congratulations, Jorancy, and good luck in your senior year!
