The One Book Project

A recent trend in summer reading across the US is the emergence of a single novel an entire high school and community reads together. This promotes discussion and understanding of key themes. 

 

Therefore, all students at SHS will read One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus for summer 2019.

 

Students entering AP Literature will have two additional books to read, which are listed below.

Read on below for information about these books and the related assignments. Summer reading listed on this page applies to students entering Grades 9 - 12.

 

Summer reading will be completed before the first day of school, August 26.

Expectation & Assignment (All Students): 

  • This book will be read before the new school begins this year.

 

  • On Friday, September 6th, an essay on the novel will be written in class. In the days leading up to the novel, teachers will be reviewing the writing process with you, and the essay will be composed in class.

 

  • As you will need quotes from the book, we suggest making notes as you read. You may bring the notes into class. This essay is mandatory, as is reading the book. This essay will be accounted for in the 80% summative category, and it will serve as your first grade for the year.

Additional Reading for Students Entering AP Literature

Expectation: 

Students entering AP Literature classes will write the aforementioned essay on One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus and take one test on both the additional novels listed below. All three books are required summer reading for students entering AP Literature in Fall 2019.
