A Public Health Message from the Southbridge Board of Health

This is an important Public Health Message from the Southbridge Board of Health.

This is Andrew Pelletier Southbridge Director of Public Health with an update from the Town regarding the Coronavirus. Currently the town with Harrington Hospital and other private partners are working together to ensure proper distribution of information and appropriate response to serve our citizens.

At this time the risk to the town of Southbridge remains low, however; the situation remains fluid; new information will be given to the public as it becomes available. We receive continual updates from the State Department of Public Health and our other partners.

In order to reduce the potential transmission of this virus the town has canceled or postponed all large municipality sponsored gatherings. We are encouraging private organizations to do so as well. Please check with your venue for the latest updates.

At this time all public schools remain open. The Superintendent is taking precautions with regard to school activities and will continue to update parents as needed.

Please refer to Town’s webpage and Southbridge Cable TV (channel 192 and 194) for updated information.

Please remember to practice the following preventative measures:

  1. Practice social distancing, maintain reasonable space between you and others

  2. Any person with flu-like symptoms should stay home

  3. Under no circumstances should children be sent to school until they are free of flu-like symptoms for 24 Hours without medication

  4. Practice good, frequent hand washing. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

  5. Cover your mouth into your inner elbow, not your hands when you cough or sneeze

  6. Avoid touching facial areas with your hands

If at any time you feel that you need medical attention, please contact your physician’s office, urgent care facility, or other care facility and inform them of any flu-like symptoms.
